🇲🇽Did you know that the ancient Mayan city o 🇲🇽Did you know that the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza is an entire complex of Mayan ruins? When you visit Chichen Itza you’ll see a lot more than just the famous massive step pyramid that you see everyone post on here (& that I posted a few days ago😂). ⁣
⁣
🎥 I’ve got a blog post & @youtube video coming up soon to share more information about visiting the entire complex of Chichen Itza! This pyramid I’m standing in front of was one of the smaller pyramids that is part of the larger complex. There’s a lot of structures to see & even cenotes! ⁣
⁣
💃This was my first ever visit to Chichen Itza which is one of the most visited tourist sites in Mexico & previously I’ve actually avoided visiting a lot in the Yucatán peninsula just because I hate crowded, touristy places. 😂 ⁣
⁣
🧍‍♀️However, if I can visit tourist sites without the crowds & chaos then I’m all in. That’s what it’s like to visit Chichen Itza right now since the government is limiting the amount of people who can enter the site every day. ⁣
⁣
😷Moreover, Chichen Itza is such a large complex & it’s easy to social distance here. One of the reasons why I decided I wanted to live in Mexico right now is because it’s mandatory for everyone to wear masks everywhere (even outside like this) & most of the activities I can do here in Mexico feel safe because I’m constantly outdoors. ⁣
⁣
💻So I feel good about my decision to move to Mexico as a digital nomad. As someone who was a full-time traveler, I was scrambling to figure out where to live when travel shut down. So I’m forever grateful to México because I’m very happy here right now living in this incredible country. ⁣
⁣
🇲🇽P.s. if you want to know what it’s like as a digital nomad here in Mexico then click on the link in my bio as I have a few blog posts covering this!
95% of the time I travel alone & I have very speci 95% of the time I travel alone & I have very specific reasons for that. I’m going to share why but first I want to say that I have realized it’s a hell of a lot of fun to travel with someone else if you’ve got the right company!✈️ ⁣
⁣
As many of you have seen from my recent posts & stories that I was traveling for 2 weeks with my friend @wanderingredheadcher. 🇲🇽⁣
⁣
It was great to travel with Cher because we have a lot in common & we the same travel styles. We’re both Liverpool supporters so we had fun taking a break from sightseeing to watch a game. We also both have a lot of experience traveling solo & independently so if someone needed a break to relax or get work done the other person was fine exploring alone. 💃⁣
⁣
I’ve tried to travel with other people a handful of times & I actually prefer to travel with others. I’ve noticed that I have more fun & I feel more relaxed because I’m not as on guard about safety & I have someone to help me split the cost & work/research that goes into planing & executing trips. It’s also nice to have someone to drink with since it’s not smart to get drunk when I’m traveling alone. 😂🎉🍷 ⁣
⁣
So why do I travel alone 95% of the time? I choose to travel alone because as a digital nomad, I work a lot while traveling (I shared about some of this on my stories this past weekend). I have a different travel style compared to most people. When most people travel they are on an actual vacation or they’re backpacking throughout a region & have quit their job to just focus on traveling long-term & having fun. I only spend a bit of time sightseeing & having fun but most of the time when I’m traveling I’m actually working. 💻 ⁣
⁣
Unless I actually step away from work for a bit of time & take a proper vacation I usually struggle to travel with others. I don’t have a significant other or a digital nomad travel partner so I choose to just travel alone rather than let my single status hold me back from chasing my dreams.💃⁣
⁣
Anyway, if you want to know more about how I’m able to afford to travel so much as a digital nomad then check out the link in my bio! 🇲🇽✈️💻🌍
Alright, so who is bilingual or multilingual? What Alright, so who is bilingual or multilingual? What languages do you speak & how well do you speak other languages? ⁣
⁣
I obviously speak English but I also speak very bad Spanish. 😂 ⁣
⁣
If you have traveled to Spain or anywhere in Latin American then you know that most people in these countries do not speak English. I never expect anyone to speak English because I think that’s rude to expect people in other countries to speak my own language. Therefore, I’ve spent the last few years in Latin America speaking Spanish to people but very bad Spanish.😂⁣
⁣
I know enough Spanish to get by. I can greet people in Spanish, I can order food, ask for directions, count money, tell someone I don’t want change (for their tip), & tell them a bit of information about myself. I can read most signs in Spanish but I am now wanting to learn how to speak Spanish better. ⁣
⁣
I learned a bit of Spanish in high school & college & recently I’ve been using the Babbel app to improve my Spanish while traveling in Mexico. However, I decided that if I want to take my Spanish speaking skills to the next level that I need more structure. So I’ve signed up for online Spanish lessons & I’m taking courses 1-3 times per week! ⁣
⁣
If all goes well with these online lessons I’ll continue to share more information as I’m sure there might be others interested in learning to speak Spanish!
After two scooter accidents only within the last y After two scooter accidents only within the last year (one in Nicaragua & another here México) I know I should be staying away from bikes... but I can’t help it. 😂🏍🇲🇽⁣

Hey, guys! So after spending some time in Oaxaca, Hey, guys! So after spending some time in Oaxaca, México for Day of the Dead I’m back in the Yucatán peninsula! 💀🇲🇽⁣
⁣
This photo was taken about 2 weeks ago when I was exploring the Yucatán with @wanderingredheadcher. We were in the city of Izamal & we got this view by climbing one of the ancient temple pyramids. 💃🇲🇽⁣
⁣
What is so unique about the city of Izamal is that most of the buildings are yellow (I share a lot of this kind of content in my stories)! There are also 5 huge pre-Columbian structures that are easily visible within the city. Swipe left to see a few more photos & videos of this ancient pyramid we climbed on top of.🤪 🇲🇽⁣
⁣
If you’re familiar with the Yucatán state or even the entire peninsula here in Mexico then you’ll know that most of the area is flat with little it no topographic variation (only a few hills). The areas surrounding the cities are mostly jungle & it’s hot & humid AF here.😂🥵 ⁣
⁣
Since it’s so flat the best viewpoints are mostly from on top of the ancient Mayan ruins. However, the rules are constantly changing! Visitors were once allowed to climb to the top of the pyramid at Chichen Itza & at Uxmal but when we recently went to visit these ruins we were not allowed to climb. 🏞🇲🇽⁣
⁣
I plan to visit a few more ancient Mayan ruins near Merida & Tulum so I’ve got more to share about where I’ve already been & more new sites to come soon! 🤪🇲🇽
So this Mezcal tour I did in Oaxaca was one of the So this Mezcal tour I did in Oaxaca was one of the most fun things I’ve done in a while. If you’re in Oaxaca you should definitely check out these distilleries & have a fun day getting drunk.😂🎉🥃⁣
⁣
Anyway, it’s another match day for Liverpool & one thing that can be a pain about living in Mexico is trying to figure out where I can watch the match! 😂⚽️⁣
⁣
Mexicans obviously love football⚽️ but they mostly watch their own football league here in Mexico. If someone does watch European football then they mostly watch La Liga. So if Barcelona or Real Madrid is playing at the same time that Liverpool is playing then I’ll have a tough time finding a bar/restaurant that will play the game. 🇲🇽⚽️⁣
⁣
However, I can usually find a place that will put the Liverpool match on if I ask. For instance, in Oaxaca there was an Irish pub that showed premier league games & in Merida where I am for the next month, there is an Irish pub I went to with @wanderingredheadcher & they put the match on for us!⚽️⁣
⁣
The best place I’ve found in Mexico where I have watched a Liverpool game was in Mexico City with @liverpoolfc_mx_fl. They have a good-sized group that meets every weekend to watch games & I had a lot of fun watching a match with them last year! 🇲🇽⚽️⁣
⁣
Today I’m back in Merida, México & I’m sitting in my pajamas streaming both Liverpool games today. I streamed the Liverpool women’s game this morning & I’m staying in my pajamas & streaming the upcoming men’s match. I’m emotionally drained after following the 🗳 results in the 🇺🇸 for so many days & I can’t be bothered getting off the couch. 😂 Up the reds! ⚽️🎉
⁣ I recently spent one week in Oaxaca with my fr ⁣
I recently spent one week in Oaxaca with my friend @wanderingredheadcher & we had such a fun time on this Mezcal distillery & tasting tour! If you want to see us get tipsy😂 🎉, learn more about Mezcal liquor, & learn more about the tour then check out my stories today! 🇲🇽🥃 ⁣
⁣
I’ve been to quite a few places in Mexico now & Oaxaca is now one of my favorites. Oaxaca is famous for incredible Mexican food, mezcal, & Day of the Dead celebrations. Oaxaca is a true gem & if you’re wanting to visit Mexico then I highly recommend putting Oaxaca on your travel list! 🇲🇽💀 ⁣
⁣
I’m no longer in Oaxaca with Cher & I’m back to my solo digital nomad travels in Mexico. I’m going to spend the next few weeks continuing to share what it’s like to live here in Mexico as a digital nomad. I’ve got more video & blog content coming up soon from the Yucatán state, Quintana Roo, & Oaxaca!
Let’s talk about mezcal liquor & all of these ag Let’s talk about mezcal liquor & all of these agave plants in this photo. 🤪🇲🇽 🥃⁣
⁣
When most people think of liquor from Mexico they think of tequila & tequila is a type of mezcal but it’s only made from just one type of agave. Mezcal liquor in general can be made from 50 different types of agave & most of it is made in the state of Oaxaca! ⁣
⁣
So naturally, when I was in Oaxaca City with my friend @wanderingredheadcher we decided to book a Mezcal tasting tour. We booked the tour with @lasbugambiliastours because they were highly recommended by a few other bloggers (our tour wasn’t sponsored I just always like to mention who I book with to be helpful). ⁣
⁣
The tour took us to where some agave is grown in the mountain valley in the state of Oaxaca & we got to visit 3 different local distilleries in order to learn how mezcal is created. Of course we had the chance to sample a lot of the mezcal too! 🤪🇲🇽🥃⁣
⁣
I loved everything about the tour with the exception of the first distillery we visited (I’ll explain more details about this soon). If you want to learn more about what the tour is like you can check out my stories tomorrow as I’ll share plenty of photos & videos. I’m also going to create a blog post overview & a @youtube video of mezcal tasting in Oaxaca so stay tuned for more! 🤪🇲🇽
So yesterday I was hoping for a Liverpool win but So yesterday I was hoping for a Liverpool win but also a #BidenHarris win.⚽️🗳 ⁣
⁣
We got the Liverpool win (& a really good one🤪⚽️ ) but the result of the U.S. election is yet to be determined. So let’s see if both of those results happen by today or later this week. I have to admit that I’m really anxious about this election. 😬🗳⁣
⁣
In the meantime, I’m going to keep sharing about Day of the Dead! I’m behind on my stories so I’m finally today sharing from Day of the Dead this past weekend.💀🇲🇽⁣
⁣
On my stories today I have lots of photos & videos from buying marigolds at the market (the flowers officially used for Day of the Dead) & checking out alters & Day of the Dead displays in Oaxaca City.💀🇲🇽⁣
⁣
What I loved about Oaxaca is that all over the city there is awesome street art like this behind me. I’ve been sharing a lot of this street art in my stories as well.💀🇲🇽⁣
⁣
Also, the city is very clean & safe. I know a lot of people don’t want to believe me when I talk about how incredible México is & how safe I’ve felt (even as a solo female traveler) but I’m still going to keep posting & trying to convince some of you! 😂🇲🇽⁣
⁣
Lastly, the food is incredible in Oaxaca! The best food I’ve ever had anywhere in the world has been in India (Bengali), Lebanon (everywhere in the small country), the Italian Riviera, & now I can also add Oaxaca to my list of favorite places in the world for food!🤪🍴🌮🍮

Walking into my favorite cafe here in Oaxaca! 💀 Walking into my favorite cafe here in Oaxaca! 💀 ☕️ ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
How cute is the Day of the Dead art on the outside of this cafe & the masks on the skeletons?😷💀🇲🇽 ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Things in Mexico are so very different during Day of the Dead this year. I was in Mexico City last year during the holiday & I had the chance to visit a cemetery & see families gather at the graves of their loved ones. There was also a big parade & parties everywhere in the city. ⁣⁣
Check out the link in my bio to watch my @youtube video from Day of the Dead last year. 💀🇲🇽⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This is my first time in Oaxaca for Day of the Dead & usually the locals gather at the cemetery & celebrate with a parade just like what I experienced last year in Mexico City. 🎉💀⁣⁣
⁣⁣
However, the parade & cemetery gatherings have been canceled in Oaxaca this year (as well as all over Mexico). There are a few festivities going on in the city & later this month I’ll publish a YouTube video sharing more about my experience here in Oaxaca.
¡Buenos días desde Oaxaca!💀🇲🇽⁣ ⁣ If ¡Buenos días desde Oaxaca!💀🇲🇽⁣
⁣
If anyone knows me they know I love México & I love Day of the Dead! Last year I was in both Guanajuato & Mexico City for Day of the Dead & this year I’m in Oaxaca! 🇲🇽⁣
⁣
In fact, I love this holiday so much that I might skip out on watching the Liverpool game today just so that I can check out the festivities going on in the city. 😂💀⁣
⁣
Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday that begins on November 1st & ends on November 2 (some festivities begin a few days before). The holiday involves family & friends gathering to pray for & to remember loved ones who have died. ⁣
⁣
Of course, the holiday is going to be celebrated different this year. In much of Mexico most people will meet in the cemeteries in order to remember their loved ones & there are also many parades in the country. All of this has been canceled this year, however, there are still a few traditions taking place. ⁣
⁣
If you want to see what Day of the Dead is all about then check out my stories over the next few days! 💀🇲🇽
Did you know that there a link between dinosaurs, Did you know that there a link between dinosaurs, an asteroid, & cenotes in México? 🤪🦖🦕 Let’s talk about all of the cenotes in the Yucatán, México! ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I’ve traveled to Mexico a few times now but I had never seen cenotes because in Mexico they are mostly located in the Yucatán peninsula & I only traveled to the Yucatán for the first time this year. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
So what are cenotes? A cenote is a natural sinkhole which was formed from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. Cenotes are common geological forms in low altitude regions & in the Yucatán they were sometimes used by the ancient Maya for sacrificial offerings. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Scientists have learned that the Yucatán peninsula was home to an asteroid impact 66 millions years ago & this impact that killed the dinosaurs was also responsible for creating all of the beautiful cebotes in the Yucatán! 😍🦕🦖 ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
There are over 6,000 of these cenotes in the Yucatán peninsula.😱🇲🇽 However, not all cenotes are accessible. If you’ve watched my stories lately you would have seen plenty of videos of a few beautiful cenotes I’ve been exploring with my friend @wanderingredheadcher who took this photo.🤪📸 ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
When we explored some of the cenotes here in the Yucatán we had to climb down steep steps or swim through caves. It’s a really cool experience & I plan to explore a few more cenotes later in November & December. More to come on this in a few weeks including a blog post explaining how to visit some of these cenotes & what to expect!
